Here are some of the crafty events in and around Athens that I'd like to try to visit before the end of June:
Indie Craft Experience, May 30-31 at Centennial Park in Atlanta
Virginia Highland Summerfest, June 5-7 at John Howell Park in Atlanta
Walton County Crepe Myrtle Festival, June 13 at Hammond Park in Monroe, GA
Stone Mountain Village Arts & Crafts Festival, June 20 on Main Street in Stone Mountain, GA
Athfest, June 25-28 in downtown Athens, GA
Pass on the info and get your buddies to road trip with you.

"When I am about to make a table, I first collect my energies and bring my mind to absolute quietness. I become oblivious of any reward to be gained or any fame to be acquired. When I am free from the influences of all such outer considerations, I can listen to the inner voice which tells me clearly what I have to do." --From the tale of the carpenter, by Chuang Tzu

Closing the Route to the East
Though I'm late recording their passing, a world of armchair designers will nonetheless continue to mourn the loss of PingMag, an online journal of the artistic explorations of Japan. After operating for 3.5 years, PingMag revealed to those of us in the naive West that what we thought about art could easily be turned on its ear, but in quite a classy way.
Luckily, the site remains present, archiving all of its past articles, which include articles on fashion, music, architecture, animation and illustration, and even typography. Those seeking exotic inspiration should drop in and browse.
I originally discovered PingMag while researching the Japanese hakama, a pleated, wide-legged pant worn traditionally by some martial artists (see right). Keep your eyes on CH in the future for my instruction on how to adapt this garment for a casual summer or beach look with an exotic flair. I can guarantee that no one will be wearing these in your neighborhood.
